SHAWN CARTER WIKI - Jay-Z - Wikipedia
Shawn Corey Carter (born December 4, 1969),
known professionally as Jay-Z,[a] is
an American rapper, businessman, and record executive.[8][9][10] Rooted
in East Coast hip-hop, he was named the greatest
rapper of all time by Billboard and Vibe in
2023.[11]
A protégé of fellow New York City-based rapper Jaz-O, Jay-Z began
his musical career in the late 1980s; he co-founded the record
label Roc-A-Fella Records in 1994 to release his
first two studio albums Reasonable Doubt (1996)
and In My Lifetime, Vol. 1 (1997),
both of which were met with critical acclaim. Each of his eleven subsequent
albums, including The Blueprint (2001), The Black Album (2003), American Gangster (2007),
and 4:44 (2017),
debuted atop the Billboard 200; Jay-Z holds the record for
the most number-one albums (14) of any solo artist on the chart.[13][14][15] He
has also released the collaborative albums The Best of Both
Worlds (2002) and Unfinished Business (2004)
with singer R. Kelly,[16] Collision Course (2004)
with Linkin Park, Watch
the Throne (2011) with Kanye West,
and Everything Is Love (2018) with his
wife Beyoncé.[17] He
peaked the Billboard Hot 100 on four
occasions: once as a lead artist with his 2009 single "Empire State of Mind" (featuring Alicia
Keys), and thrice with his guest performances on the singles "Heartbreaker" by Mariah
Carey, "Crazy in Love" by Beyoncé, and "Umbrella"
by Rihanna.[18]
Through his business ventures, Jay-Z became the first
hip-hop billionaire in 2019.[19][20] In
1999, he co-founded the clothing retailer Rocawear[21] and
later founded the 40/40 Club, a luxury bar chain, in 2003. As both
grew into multi-million-dollar businesses, he launched Roc Nation, a
multi-disciplinary entertainment agency in 2008. In 2015, he acquired the
technology company Aspiro and led the expansion of Tidal,
the company's media streaming service.[22][23][24] As
of 2025, he is the wealthiest musical artist in
the world with a net worth of US$2.5 billion.[25]

In another letter, dated May 21, 1992, and sent to the U.S. Secret Service among others, Jones wrote, “To all concerned parties, I hope you receive this letter in good health and in good spirits. I decided that because nobody is taking me serious[ly] and I can’t handle my state of mind that I am going to Washington DC to threaten to kill the President of the United States, George Bush. If they do not arrest me or solve my problem I’m gonna attempt to kill President George Bush . . . I dare you to call this a bluff.” The Secret Service and FBI investigated Jones’s threats. According to the FBI file, Jones “was arrested by the U.S. Secret Service on 22nd May 1992 as he attempted to get on the White House grounds. Apparently, this was a ploy by [Jones] to attract attention to his ‘problem’ with [Michael Jackson].” Jones was not prosecuted and he was released even though an FBI agent, in a sworn affidavit, said
Jones had told him he had “tried to kill the President.”
Frank Paul Jones was arrested on June 22, 1992, for trespassing in the driveway of the Jackson family compound in Encino, California. In 1992, he was initially judged to be incompetent to stand trial, but after treatment at a federal corrections institution in North Carolina, doctors determined he was fit to be tried. In 1993, he was sentenced to two years in prison for “mailing a threatening communication,” but no charges were made in relation to the threats against President Bush.

Born in New
York City, Dash swept the floors of a local barbershop and sold newspapers
in order to buy sneakers and shirts as a teenager. Dash "learned to
hustle", in his own words, from the example of his mother, who died of
an asthma attack
when he was 15.[6] The
same year, Dash was diagnosed with type
1 diabetes.[7] "Before
I was diagnosed... I went about a month or two just going to the bathroom
non-stop and losing weight", Dash recalled. "Magic
Johnson had just been diagnosed with AIDS, so
that's what I thought I had. I was scared to even go to the doctor. I thought I
was going to die."[7]
